Do men fear or envy childbirth? Is his expression one of agony or ecstasy? Are those in attendance comforters – or colluders in some kind of nightmare? (Think Rosemary’s Baby.) Is the woman a midwife – or a witch?

Possible moral: beware men with big heads and two faces.
